Richards Layton Elects Marcos A. Ramos as Director and J. Weston Peterson as Counsel of the Firm

WILMINGTON, Delaware (June 14, 2010) – Richards, Layton & Finger has elected Marcos A. Ramos as a director of the firm and J. Weston Peterson to the position of counsel, effective July 1, 2010.

A member of Richards Layton’s Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Department, Ramos focuses on preference and fraudulent transfer litigation, as well as contested matter and other bankruptcy proceedings. He is a registered mediator with the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Delaware and the Southern District of New York, and an active mediator with the Superior Court of Delaware.

Ramos is president and co-founder of the Delaware Hispanic Bar Association. He is also a member of the Delaware State Bar Association, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. Ramos earned a B.A. from Brown University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Michigan Law Review.

Peterson concentrates his practice on the use of Delaware trusts organized as investment companies, where he advises clients with respect to entity formation, capital raising transactions, fiduciary duty issues, fund reorganizations and acquisitions, defensive planning, proxy contests and shareholder meetings. He also has experience with international and domestic structured finance transactions. In addition, Peterson represents banks and trust companies in connection with their trust and agency services in a wide variety of commercial transactions.

Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Peterson practiced as an M&A and securities law attorney in the New York offices of Jones Day and O’Melveny & Myers, as well as in the Netherlands as an in-house attorney for a Dutch telecommunications company. In addition, he has served as an adjunct professor at George Mason University School of Law. Peterson received a B.A., with distinction, from the University of Delaware and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law.
